Updated: Wish List

So Selle already posted her wishlist which inspired me to come up with my own.

1. Karlology - I haven't had the chance to check the bookstores here if this book is available. I've read a few pages online and it sure is funny.

2. Manila By Day - Read more about it here.

3. Enjoy card - I love discount cards! I just think that it's not practical for me to buy this because I'm not in Manila often but if somebody will give it to me then I'm perfectly okay with it.

4. BlackBerry Torch - Touch screen and a keyboard, BlackBerry 6, new browser - what's not to like?

5. Passport holder - I don't have a specific design in mind yet but I was thinking a passport holder and wallet in one.

5. Bellroy Wallet

Uniqlo

On the day of Em-J's birthday treat, we passed by Uniqlo to check out the many jackets on sale in preparation for our upcoming trip. I had no intention of getting one for myself since I don't find it practical to buy a jacket that I'll only use once. I figured that I'll just borrow from someone or use the few jackets that I already have and layer them.

We tried a few pieces out and then left to have our lunch; I was very successful cause I was true to my resolve and didn't buy any. After lunch, someone wanted to go back and check the store again. Someone also reasoned that we don't really have much time left so if we needed something, now is the time to get it. I wasn't so successful this time. I bought several pieces that I don't really need. :(

Clumsy Me

I'm not really a fan of watches. I don't know why, I just never felt comfortable sporting one but when I saw the New Gent line from Swatch while we were picking out a gift for Em-J, I knew I just had to get one.

Em-J was asking the staff from Swatch if they still sell the rubber protectors from way back when, unfortunately they don't.

Anyway, two days after, I accidentally scratched my watch while I was talking to somebody as we were passing through a narrow doorway. Yikes! It had several deep gashes up top. I know this is not covered by the warranty so I gave the service center a call to check the price for the replacement glass. I was then told that they don't replace the glass for battery operated watches. Double yikes!

I decided to go back to the store where I bought the watch last Wednesday. Clarice sent a message that she saw a service center at Wheelock so I passed by there first.

It's funny but they don't handle Swatch watches there; I was directed back to the retail shop. Good thing the shop is nearby.

I showed them the scratched watch and was told that they'll try to polish it. A minute after, they handed it back to me looking almost new except for a little nick. Yey!

Google Maps

I have to say I'm very impressed with Google Maps. I mostly use it on my BlackBerry, I've never tried the web-based version till today.

I asked Geno to send me a list of accredited clinics near where I live early this morning. While I would normally use GoThere's website to get directions, I tried to Google one address first. It gave me a map which really doesn't help me much since I'm not familiar with the street names.

I zoomed in and zoomed in and was surprised that they now have a street view.

What's more is that you can rotate the picture to see the surrounding areas. How nifty! This helped me in quickly identifying what's familiar and I actually saw one clinic right in front of our bus stop.

If I was able to save my cab fare, the visit to the doctor was another thing. On top of the meds, he required me to buy this lotion which was not covered by my HMO.

Quite expensive by my standards since I don't usually use lotions and I just bought one the day before.

Oh well, I just hope it works and I start feeling better.

Em-J's 29th at Swensen's

After finding out that the Embassy of China is closed on Saturdays, Em-J decided to treat us out for his birthday. We called the rest of our flat mates and waited for them at Orchard. We really had no plans so we couldn't decide where to go. We eventually ended up at Swensen's.

They have the dessert buffet which we have been planning to try for the longest time.

We settled in and decided on our orders.

Abby and Em-J had the salmon which was nice. I don't think you can go wrong with any salmon dish.

Photobucket

Eli had this chicken dish and he requested the fries be changed to rice, he ended up being quite disappointed with the less than generous serving of rice.

Photobucket

Clarice was having a hard time deciding whether to have the chicken in a basket or the all day breakfast. She finally settled with Crayfish pasta.

Photobucket

Eco and I both had the cheese steak sandwich.

Em-J was insisting that he wasn't hungry but he placed another order for himself, the chicken chop.

Photobucket

The dessert selection didn't disappoint but come prepared with your ampalaya drink to battle the major sugar intake.

The first station was the fondue and cake station which I skipped.

I headed straight to the waffle station and prepared my own waffle dessert.

I got carried away with the whipped cream.

They have the sundae station where they mix and mash your ice cream and topping selections. I also skipped this since I prefer my ice cream plain and simple.

They have the ice cream (pictured below) and the gelato section where I went crazy. Good thing there were only a handful of diners because service can be quite slow. I think they are a bit understaffed since the person in charge of scooping out the ice creams are also in charge of preparing what's on their regular dessert menu.

This is Eli's first dessert plate which I'm sure Choy would be curious to see.

Photobucket

My favorite is their calamansi and soursop gelato, very refreshing.

This is us after our meal.

He was then given a birthday treat by Swensen's, more ice cream!

KLM Tag: Arianna

The KLM luggage tag arrived three weeks ago.

I am excited to finally have a tag to use and a personalized one at that. I remember my mom used to put a red ribbon in our luggage to easily identify what's ours in the conveyor belt. For some reason, I never got around to doing this.

My aunt gave me a luggage when I visited Manila last July. It was quite stupid of me to not have checked the brand and the details. All i know is that it was black.

I was on a late flight and was one of the first few passengers out. I wanted to rush home because I have to work early the next day. Since I was also among the last to board the plane, I expected my luggage to be out first. The problem was I couldn't identify which was mine. I already saw the luggage but I couldn't be sure. It had a lock that I didn't notice earlier so it confused me. I ended up waiting for about 20 minutes when there were only three of us left by the belt. Having this personalized tag from now on would ensure that this does not happen to me again.

Chloe Pays Modern Family a Visit

I know I'm a few days late but this bit of news is pretty big! Next to Jack Bauer, Chloe is my favorite 24 character and she's set to appear in my newest favorite tv show, Modern Family. Yey!!!

She was last seen telling Jack Bauer to "Run!" and now 24's Chloe O'Brian is running to ABC's Modern Family. Mary Lynn Rajskub, who spent six long "days" saving Jack's butt, has been cast on the Emmy-winning sitcom as the old high school girlfriend of then closeted Mitchell (Jesse Tyler Ferguson). Apparently Chloe's mastermind mental skills did not include gaydar.

Rajskub, who got her start as a stand-up comic, recently guest starred on It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia and Royal Pains. Won't it be fun to see if Cameron (Eric Stonestreet) gets a little jealous of the girl who wooed his boy way back when?

I haven't been able to post anything new the past two weeks since it's been crazy busy at work. My weekends have been uneventful but I took those days to just rest and catch up on my TV downloads.

Anyway, Choy left Singapore for good yesterday. A couple of weeks back, he told the rest of our friends of his decision, a dinner was planned and we met up on a Saturday night in Seoul Garden at Orchard.

Choy has been a very good friend and I've been very impressed with his impeccable sense of direction. He introduced us to the best places to eat at and explored the area where we used to live and told us about his finds. For someone like me who's mostly too lazy to explore, he's been a very big help.

He did leave me with one more reason to shop with less guilt.
