Quick Bite: Slappy Cakes

It's a bit unfair to write about Slappy Cakes without trying the pancakes that they are known for but while I love pancakes, I don't find the idea of making my own pancake very appealing so we skipped those.  

The restaurant looks like a classy cafe.

Em-J's vanilla milkshake (P180) was sickeningly sweet.  I took one sip and put it down. 

The Pork Belly Benedict (P350) could be livened up a bit, the colors were dull.  Thankfully, they made up for it in terms of flavor.  I loved it and the pork belly in place of the ham works. 

The Topsy Tapa (P250) was just okay.  I honestly don't remember my impression of the dish anymore.

We ordered a side of Crispy Bacon (P100) which I found to be a bit too pricey for two sad looking bacon.

Early Bird Breakfast Club

Thanks to Century City Mall, we didn't have to go all the way to the Fort to try out the Early Bird Breakfast Club.  Thanks also to their early opening hours, we can head there as early as 7am to have our fill.  There's something about waking up early and enjoying the cool morning breeze complemented with great food that just energizes you.

The interiors are beautiful, relaxing and fun.

Ask about the serving size, there are dishes that are good enough for sharing such as the Early Bird Full English (P495).

The Tiramisu Pancakes (P325), on the other hand, is a bit small.  It's delicious but it's not as filling. 

I tried their newest item, the Sweet Glazed Katcino (P375) being a fan of katsudon and tocino.  Serving size is also huge.  Order an extra cup of rice and this would be good enough for two.  This dish is certainly unique and tasty. 

I enjoyed the french toast fondue (P210), the french toast is sticky, crunchy and sweet.  The melted chocolate, cinnamon sugar and the maple syrup are heaven.  It's a sinful breakfast indulgence. 

The Bacon and Cheddar Frittata (P275) is comforting.

Analyn and May ordered the Sunny Salpicao (P325) and the Viva Longganisa (P345).  I liked how perfect the egg looks.

Wild Honey

Wild Honey's food is simple and delicious.  It is wildly popular that we had to wait more than an hour when we visited their branch at Mandarin Gallery.  We eventually gave up and transferred to another cafe. 

We're not one to easily give up so one weekend, we headed to Scotts Square where they opened their second branch.  

Their version of Eggs Benedict is really good. 

Em-J ordrered the English breakfast which is one mean breakfast plate with bacon, eggs, baked beans, tomatoes, sausages, toast, mushrooms and potatoes. 

Wilson opted for the Tunisian breakfast, I didn't get to try but it's said to be one of their more popular dishes. 

I don't remember what our drink's called but it was refreshing.

An average meal would be around $35 with drinks, not exactly cheap but it's not bad to indulge once in a while.

HEAT - Buffet Breakfast

Breakfast is my favorite meal of the day. Up to now, I still get excited at the thought of getting to work early and enjoying a quiet breakfast before I start my busy day.

I don't find it weird if friends invite me to meet up with them to have breakfast. Rhommel and I had a breakfast date at Richmonde while Jencarps and I met up at Heaven and Eggs when I was in Manila last January.

It's also not a secret that I love buffets. The thought of a breakfast buffet actually makes me ecstatic and one of my favorites is HEAT's.

They have a very wide selection, in fact, they have way more than some of the lunch and dinner buffets that I've been to.

Think of one thing that you'd like for breakfast and chances are, they have it such as egg cooked your way and an assortment of cereals.





There are pancake, waffles, crepes and french toasts.





For those wanting some Filipino fare, they have puto and turon.



Sinangag, itlog na maalat and some Filipino dishes (tapa, tocino, bangus) to go with the carbs.





Congee, noodles, dimsum, and even taho are also there.









If you're up for some Japanese goodies, don't fret as they are also available.



There are also a lot of hot dishes to choose from, there's a carving station as well as cold stations for those watching their weight.















The stars of the buffet for me are the ensaymada, doughnuts and pandesal. The pandesal was so good that I had to come back several times for more. I talked to the chef who told me that they actually make their own pandesal.





Last but not that least are the desserts and while they don't have any cakes, the sorbetes style ice cream and fruits are more than satisfactory.

Moving In

All of us had an early start last Sunday. We started packing the little things that we couldn't figure out where to put the previous day. Spaces that have been cleared out were cleaned. Mid-way through our packing and cleaning frenzy, our McDonald's breakfast arrived. Clarice, Em-J and I all ordered the Deluxe meal knowing that it would be late in the afternoon before we'll have the chance to eat again.

We called the cab company and asked for 4 Maxicabs (vans) to be at our place at 12:30. When they learned that we were using the vans to move, they said that they don't allow that so we were left no choice but to cancel. 

We were still thinking of how to transport our stuff at around 12:20 when we received a text message and a call saying that the Maxicabs we asked for were already downstairs. Imagine the panic, I haven't had the chance to take a shower yet so I took a very quick one. We then started hauling all our stuff down. This took about an hour to complete. The drivers were saying that we should have taken our stuff down earlier but we really had no choice since we were caught unaware.

One van then had to leave early as he was already running late for his next schedule. Em-J and I rode with him while the rest followed soon after. On the way to our new place, it started to rain. The owner then texted that they will be a bit late. We had to wait by the lobby while some of our things got soaked.

We finished moving in at around 4pm, our agent then treated us with some pizza. 

Eli, Clarice and I then headed back to our old place to tidy the place up a bit. In our hurry, we actually left the place in a bit of disarray. After that, we headed to Fair Price to pick up some food and things that we still need. Needless to say, I was spent.
