Starz Buffet

I didn't want to write about the lunch buffet at Starz because of our bad experience but overall I liked the food so might as well. Just an update, no one called me about my complaint, I called them again and was promised another call back but I never heard back from them.

Anyway, on to the purpose of this entry.

We all loved the interiors of the restaurant down to the waiting area of the toilet and the toilet itself.

The restaurant was almost empty at 12 noon and surveying the buffet spread, we noticed that except for ham, there's no beef and pork on the menu. I don't know if it's targeted also to Indian customers cause there's almost three stations dedicated to Indian cuisine.

I'm really not a fan of anything spicy so I skipped the above selections and started with the hot stations.

and a little Japanese fare, breaded chicken.

The roasted meat is yes, chicken. Not turkey, not lamb, not beef.

While curry, vegetables, seafood noodles and roast chicken are not really what I like, the saving grace of the buffet for me are their cold stations.

Potato salad, salmon salad and roasted duck with mango salad. All good!

Chicken with pesto sauce, cold broccoli and tomatoes with mozzarella cheese.

Last but not the least would have to be my favorite, melon with parma ham.

I was also excited about their waffles but it was very disappointing. I'm not sure what they were thinking when they made the waffles but it was crunchy hard and bland, the kind that can cause serious injury to your mouth.

Fortunately, the ice cream was extra rich and nice. They also have mangosteens which I love so dessert was still okay.

As I said, I did enjoy some of the selections but I don't think I'll be coming back anytime soon. There are other buffets that are a bit more accessible with better food selections.

Starz Lunch Buffet Promo

Early Saturday, we trooped all the way to Resorts World Sentosa to try the lunch buffet at Hard Rock's Starz. Now, you have to understand that Sentosa is quite far, but what prompted us to go there is the promo we saw online. They are offering a one for one lunch buffet and we'll end up paying just roughly $23 each.

But we were wrong. It turns out that the one for one promo is only valid on weekdays. We contemplated on just leaving because we were misinformed but since we were already there, we decided to stay.

I made the reservation the previous day, I called their reservations hotline twice and not once was I told about the validity of the promo, not even when I specifically asked about it.

I talked to three persons in the restaurant but they told me that there's really nothing that they can do. The last person I talked to said that it's a common issue that there's a disconnect between them and their reservations hotline. They eventually offered to just not charge one of us. Truth be told, still not good enough.

I called the hotline when I got home and I was informed that she'll personally look into the case and will have this escalated. I was told that they'd call me back after doing the necessary investigation. It's been 4 days and I have not heard back from them.

Let me just say that it's really a bad business practice and we're really all disgusted.

Resorts World...First Look

”resorts

The most anticipated resort, Resorts World Sentosa, opened officially last Thursday after several delays. Save for a few shops and the hotels, most places of interest were still closed and under construction. Even so, the place already looked amazing. The following are the entryways that lead to the different inter-connected hotels and shops.

You eventually end up here where you either head to Festive Hotel and Hard Rock Hotel or the more exclusive Crockfords Tower and Hotel Michael. Em-J was checked in at the Hard Rock so we headed that way.

Lobby of the Festive Hotel filled with excited guests checking in.

We exited the hotel and headed to Hard Rock Hotel.

As the hotel was pretty busy, it felt a bit chaotic. There was no one to welcome us, the lobby was a bit too dark (picture below was already edited) and the floor a bit grimy.

The room was impressive and personalized. You can actually check your messages and account through the TV, the bathroom, however was a bit small. The shower area is about the size of a tiny closet. :(

The view is breathtaking. You can see the shared pool of the hotel complete with lounges and white sand!

There was a constant drilling sound when we checked-in, we asked to be transferred to another room but the hotel was fully booked. (I actually didn't get to spend the night so I didn't know if the drilling sound continued on.) There was also cement all over the table and the drain was clogged. Minor inconveniences since it was still new. Though, I thought this should have been ironed out during the dry run. Overall, while impressive, given the rack rates currently published, I feel it is a bit overpriced.

Here's the Universal Studios globe peeking...

...and rows and rows of shops still being constructed.
